More change in Yate

Yate town centre has seen a lot of development recently and there is more to come. Tesco now has permission to build its new store in Yate (you can read more in the Gazette). Also Yate Town Council has agreed its half of the joint funding with South Glos Council for the Youth Cafe.

The new Health Centre is still on track and the NHS are asking people to come up with a name for it.

Reminder - health centre event this Wednesday

Yate's new community health centre is being built at the moment and should be ready by the autumn. It will provide outpatient appointments, hopefully a minor injuries service, X-rays and so forth, plus an integrated families' and children's advice and information centre.

The project team want to hear from people who have been helped by particular services so they can find out how best to meet their needs. There will mock-ups of the building and workshops on specific services.

Workshops will cover areas such as cardiology, diabetes, general surgery, audiology and respiratory conditions.

The event will be held in Chipping Sodbury Town Hall on Wednesday, February 11 from 2.30pm to 5pm and from 6pm to 8.30pm, with presentations at 3pm, 4pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

People interested in attending can phone 330 2408 to register.

For more details about the Health Centre please see this Evening Post article.

Have your say on health care locally

As explained on the South Glos website:

The LINk is a network of local people, organisations and groups that want to make health and social care services better. Anyone who receives health or social care services in South Gloucestershire can participate in the LINk.

The LINk’s interim steering group meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend. The next meeting will be attended by the Project Manager for the Frenchay project who will be there to talk about the plans for Frenchay as a Community hospital. This meeting is on Wednesday February 4th from 2pm until 4pm at Hawkesbury Village Hall, High Street, Hawkesbury Upton GL9 1BB.

If you're interested in giving your views on the new health centre in Yate, a public consultation event is taking place on Wednesday 11th February 2009 at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall.

All change in Yate

Yate town centre is currently undergoing a great deal of change. Work started on the new Health Centre earlier in the year(as you can read on our sister blog). The leisure centre is about to undergo a revamp, during which it is hoped it will stay open.

Not to be left out, the library will be extended and developed using £1.5 million from the Big Lottery Fund. The plan is to close Yate Library in September and operate from a temporary base for about 12 months. They will also be extending the opening hours of Chipping Sodbury Library during that time. In preparation for this Chipping Sodbury Library will be closed from 14th June – 5th August for internal redecoration and refurbishment.
