Church Road bridge update
Residents will be delighted to know that work on the demolition and replacement of the bridge is due to complete on target by 30 November ready for reopening to 2 way traffic on Monday 1 December.
The seven utility companies have taken turns to divert their services from bypassing the bridge to going over it following the closure over the school summer holidays. The pavements are now being reconstructed prior to the final surface being laid for the road and white lining replaced.
Thankfully the new composite bridge deck has a 120 year life.

How does 36 weeks from 17 March become 1st December, when most calendars show this to be 37 weeks - so we are to accept a week late as being 'on time'?
Since the bridge disruption has cost all of us a great deal of time and extra fuel due to diversions etc. I trust that the parish will benefit financially from a late delivery and miss-information penalty.

The bridge has opened today anyway, so it's on time whether you go by 36 weeks from 17th March or "by the end of November", which is what officers had been telling us throughout.
