Temporary closure of North Road and Nibley Lane

These roads are expected to be closed for cleansing work to be carried out:

• North Road,between Armstrong Way and the bridge over the River Frome, will be closed from 6.00am – 9.00am on 19th April 
• Nibley Lane between Badminton Road and the Holly Hill junction is expected to be closed from 11.30am - 2.30pm on 20th April

Night time closures of Nibley Lane

For five nights from 6th November, Nibley Lane between Badminton Road and Westerleigh Road will be closed between 9pm and 6.30am for roadworks.

South Glos have told us that the length of Nibley Lane from Holly Hill to Badminton Road will be closed for cleaning shortly. The notice says some time between 31 May and 4 June, but they anticipate it being 9.30am–2.30pm on Wed 31st.

Successful prosecution in relation to fly tipping on Nibley Lane

A landscape gardener from Bristol was fined £220 and ordered to pay £500 in costs after being found guilty of duty of care offences that led to waste being fly tipped at Nibley Lane, Westerleigh.You can read more here.

The Lib Dems on South Glos Council secured a one year continuation of funding for the council's enviro-crime service, which has a great track record of successful prosecutions in cases of fly tipping. We would have preferred this funding to have been an ongoing commitment but the other parties had different priorities.

Early warning of Nibley Lane closure

Nibley Lane, from its junction with Badminton Road for a distance of 120m south towards Westerleigh, is expected to be closed for 10 days from 9 February 2015. This is to enable cables and ducts to be laid.

Good news at Frome Vale Area Forum

Last night's Frome Vale Area Forum had a packed agenda:

• Schemes to introduce 40mph limits on the B4058/B4059 Iron Acton and 20mph limits within Iron Acton and on surrounding roads including Nibley Lane were approved.
• We awarded New Homes Bonus money to Coalpit Heath Village Hall ("The Miners") to put solar panels on their roof and to Iron Acton Parish Hall for an extension to the entrance lobby
• Station Road, Coalpit Heath and Lower Chapel Lane, Frampton Cotterell were among four resurfacing schemes we chose for 2015/16.

Work on Nibley substation planned for October

Last year Claire Young got in contact with Western Power after residents raised concerns about a new substation that had been installed on an area of open grass at Nibley. The wrong size box had been used and it was installed the wrong way round, so it overhung its concrete base.

Claire recently got in touch with the company again to find out why the problems still hadn't been corrected and to ask about a pole that is leaning over. Western Power say that the work to connect the new substation to the high voltage network will start on October 23rd 2014 and will involve traffic lights and the closure of Nibley Lane (the Badminton Road to Iron Acton stretch).

The existing building will be changed to one the correct size for the plinth and the poles changed and the old ones removed at the same time. Western Power assure residents that the old pole is not a danger, it had been identified as needing changing in the next 10 years so they will do it at the same time as the rest of the work.

The delay has been because they have been inundated with customer requests for new connections, cable diversions and generator connections, which take priority over internal works.
